City of Munich: next step in move to Debian-based system
The City of Munich announced today the next step
in their move to a Debian-based system
for standard desktop usage.
After successfully tests being run on some systems, e.g. the system of the city Mayor,
the first production systems for real users were rolled out.
I'm so glad and proud for different reasons:
- All employees of the City of Munich will work on a Debian-based system.
That is really just cool, especially for someone coming from Munich and living there since ever.
That is even better if one is actively involved in release of Debian.
- The City makes this move for a very good reason - as part of a long-term strategy to escape vendor-lockin.
The City has been known for years to make such good decisions in different areas - power, public transport, water, and now also software.
That's actually one of the reasons why it is really worth living here.
